DUNHINDA FALLS

Duhinda is a spectacular waterfall situated close to Badulla, an ancient hill capital. Fed by Baduluoya, a tributary of Mahawelli Ganga, the fall is 210 foot high. Dunhinda" is one of the mostly spoken-about waterfalls in Sri Lanka.The falls are the highest on the Badulu Oya River that flows on the mountain border of the Uva highlands and eventually surrenders itself to the Mahaweli Ganga.It is said to be the most awesome waterfall of the country.Its water smashes on the bouldered surface with high velocity and falls down into a large pool.
In native tongue "Dun" means mist or vapour which is the ideal explanation for a waterfall creating wreathes of mist on its way down.
Situated about 2 km distance from the main road which runs to Taldena from the remote city Badulla in the Uva Province this is easily accesible and frequently visited by local and foreign visitors
HOW TO VISITE:-
To reach the fall, one has to travel about 5 km from Badulla along the Mahiyangana road, and trek for another 2 km, away from the main road.
On the way can be seen the "Kuda Dunhinda" ( "Kuda" means small in Sinhala ) which is the prologue to its mighty brother .
